Brides dream about their wedding day. A vision that comes in their head is the grand wedding cake being waltz in on a beautiful cart at the beginning of the reception while guests ooh and aah. As beautiful as that sounds, it typically doesn’t happen that way, only if Cake Boss Buddy is doing the waltzing.

Typically, your wedding cake will arrive about two hours before the event. This allows time to set up the cake, add any decorations needed and set up other desserts if ordered. I make arrangements with the venue or wedding planner to assure the venue is open for me to deliver well before guests start arriving. This gives time for final assembly and fix any minor issues. Depending on how many tiers the cake is, sometimes I will deliver large cakes broken down into separate boxes to assemble at the venue. I do this only if I feel it’s safer for the cake to do so. The best investment I made not too long ago was the Cake Safe Cake Delivery System. If the cake does not have any special effects on it such as a food safe metal cake tier separator, I will deliver the cake as a whole in the Cake Safe.
Many of my cakes are decorated with sugar flowers and wafer paper flowers. Unless they are very secured, typically on a fondant cake, I will wait to place them on the cake until I set the cake up at the venue. This will prevent any breakage to the flowers. The flowers will be packaged in a separate box to keep them safe. For buttercream cakes, the flowers are applied at the venue because the icing covering is softer.

While there are many bakeries that drop off the wedding cake and have the venue set it up on the table they wish, this is not the case in my business. This may happen with large bakeries who have several wedding cakes to deliver in a weekend or if the cake will be delivered the day before and set in a refrigerator. Being I am a one-woman show in my wedding cake business, I take limited number of cakes per month. I do so because it is important for me to give your special day cake my undivided attention and detail. I am fully focused on your wedding cake. Not only do I deliver your cake, I deliver you a special service which includes many perks.
At Design My Cake by Patty, you will find me personally at your venue on your wedding day delivering and setting up your cake. Occasionally my wonderful husband will be with me to assist in the delivery. I set up as quickly as possible to be finished and gone before your guests arrive. On the wedding day, I consider myself a worker bee behind the scenes, making sure your wedding cake is displayed with the utmost care and beauty.
It is so exciting when you walk into your wedding reception room and see the wedding cake of your dreams being displayed on a table of its own, ready for the oohs and aahs from your guests.
Be sure to ask your wedding cake baker how they handle the delivery and how far in advance they deliver, especially in the summer when temperatures are higher. Reception rooms can quickly turn from cool to very warm as guests arrive and dancing starts. I ask my venue coordinator to be sure the reception room temperature stays below 70 degrees. You don’t want your cake to start melting or collapsing from the heat!
